duke of edinburgh update

We have some new proposed new dates for expeditions, these are subject to change and will be dependent on how the current situation unfolds in the coming months.

BRONZE:

12th/13th September 2020 for the Bronze Qualifier. You no longer have to do a practice expedition to pass the expedition section of your DofE award.

SILVER & GOLD:

2nd/3rd/4th October 2020- Practice. To head to the Dales on the 2nd evening, camp and walk on the Saturday and Sunday

24th - 27th Silver Qualifier

24th 28th Gold Qualifier

Following the closure of schools, after today the project will also be stopping all sessions, clubs and activities until further notice.

Covid-19 and how it is impacting the project.


We know these are uncertain times and here at the project we are following the government guidelines with respect to schools and will be remaining open as usual for all our regular term-time sessions with the exception of Cookie Crumble which is cancelled until further notice.


Following recommendations, the Ceilidh (27th March) and the Lightwater Valley trip (6th April) are both cancelled. We will aim to reschedule these at a later date, full refunds will be issued to anyone who has already paid for these trips. We are sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause.


It is important that we all follow the guidelines and information issued by the government and NHS regarding hygiene and that we take care of ourselves and the people around us. If you or anyone in your household have any symptoms please stay at home and limit any contact with those most vulnerable.


We will post updates to keep everyone informed of what is happening as and when things change.

Legacy

Legacy have organised a fantastic fundraiser for the whole family to enjoy!

There will be a band, plenty of dancing, a buffet, a raffle and a bar where you can purchase drinks.

All proceeds will be going to Wakefield Hospice.

Our hero

The nominees are out for this years Unsung Hero Award and Horbury Breakthrough Youth Project's very own John Walter is among them!

John does a fantastic job day in day out and offers up so much of his time to supporting the project and the young people, going above and beyond with everything he does!

New sessions!

If you are looking to learn something new, take up a new hobby or just do something fun with your friends come along on a Wednesday after school!

We have guitar lessons and chess running alternate weeks in G2!

The guitar lessons will be starting on the 16th of January so make sure you get your reply slips to a member of the team!

october half term 2018

We had a great half term trying out some new activities!

Bravery

We took an amazing group of girls canoeing on the last day before half term to show off their confidence in the water, and wow did they do great!!!

We DID it!!!!

We took on Snowdon and what and amazing experience it was! Well done to everyone who put in all that hard work and made it to the summit! We really do have some incredible, hard working, determined young people involved in the project.

Thank you also to every one who sponsored the young people and continue to support the project!

half term fun!

We started off our half term with a sleep over at the Church with lots of fun and games, We then took a trip to York Dungeons to give us all a good scare!

Not too long of the week off left but we had a great time finishing it up with some indoor Go Karting!

A little look at what we have been up to going into 2018!

We had some great fun playing games at the Christmas party! Thank you to everyone who got involved!

Prayer Space was a great place for anybody to come down, ask questions, think about world issues, take a break or post a prayer request. The year 7s came through as part of their lessons while studying Christianity.

Performing Arts have been experiencing a lot going down a real Coal mine at the National Coal Mining Museum and talking to a bevin boy who used to work in them! They are using their experience to work with music and recording equipment to produce a radio ballad.

A big well done to all the people who completed their Duke of Edinburgh expeditions! We know it was hard work but it was worth it in the end and you did fantastic!!!

Anyone in year 10 or up who is interested in getting involved this coming year please get in touch for more information. Its a great opportunity to learn new skills, make friends and get outdoors!
